Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda’s smallest at just under 34 km², sits high in the Virunga Mountains at the crossroads of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC. Despite its size, it offers breathtaking landscapes—three extinct volcanoes and misty bamboo forests that shelter rare wildlife.

The park’s standout inhabitants are the endangered golden monkeys, with 3,000–4,000 across the Virungas and 40–60 in at least one habituated troop for trekking. These playful primates, sporting golden-orange fur, can be tracked for about 2–5 hours before spending a full hour observing their lively behavior in bamboo thickets.

Mgahinga also protects a habituated mountain gorilla group and over 180 bird species, including Albertine Rift endemics like Rwenzori turaco and Kivu ground thrush.
Beyond wildlife, the park blends natural beauty with culture: visitors can hike volcanoes, explore Batwa pygmy trails, and enjoy panoramic jungle vistas.

Compact yet rich, Mgahinga offers gorilla and golden monkey trekking, birdwatching, volcano hikes, and cultural immersion—all in a mist-covered mountain wonderland.
